Methodology: how we source and check figures
Published · Updated · Sources verified · Edited by Eric Dawson
Primary sources first
Figures come from state agencies, statutes, regulators, rating bureaus and court or enforcement records. Where only a secondary source exists, we say so on the page.
How a figure is checked
Each figure is tied to a quotation from the source and the date we retrieved it. A second check confirms the quotation appears in the archived source text before the page is published.
Source pages are re-fetched on a schedule. When a source changes, the pages that rely on it are re-checked.
What the dates mean
Published is the first release. Updated changes only when the substance of a page changes, with a note of what changed. Sources verified is the last time we confirmed the figures against the sources, even when nothing changed.
Limits
Premiums vary by insurer, location, payroll, claims history and many other factors. We show ranges with their basis, never a quote. Nothing here is advice for your situation.
